3 guidelines for avoiding accidents on your motorcycle

Riding a motorcycle is fun, but it also comes with some inherent risks. Due to the fact you have significantly less protection on a motorcycle than you do in a car, you run a higher risk of sustaining a serious injury if you are in a crash. This makes adhering to safety guidelines that much more important.

It is always important to remind yourself of safety tips, regardless of whether you have a few weeks or several decades of riding experience. Here are a few essential steps you should take to maximize your safety on your bike.

1. Do everything you can to ensure drivers can see you

It is a simple fact that motorcycles are smaller than passenger vehicles, which makes it easier for you to pass under the radar of motorists. If drivers are going to avoid you, they need to be able to see you in the first place. Consider keeping your slick, black leather jacket in the closet in exchange for something bright and reflective. Use your high beams during the day. Helping drivers see you will help them avoid you.

2. Get a helmet that fits you

While it is not the law here to wear a helmet, it is always a good idea to make your health and well-being a priority. When you wear a helmet, you drastically reduce the chances you will get a head injury. Opt for a helmet that has DOT approval and fits snugly without being so tight that it is uncomfortable.

3. Consider loud exhaust

If you like customizing your ride, you are in luck. One good thing about louder exhaust is that it helps motorists hear you. The more noticeable you are, the less likely drivers will hit you.

Motorcycle safety is always important to keep in mind. While you are out there having fun on your bike, make sure you are doing what you can to avoid accidents and injuries.
