How to stay safe if you work in a warehouse

While it is fair to say that there are safety risks at every job some are more dangerous than others. If you work in a warehouse you should be aware of the injuries that are the most common and what you can do to try to avoid them.

The first thing you should do is to make sure you are wearing the necessary personal protective equipment. While what is needed will vary depending on the type of work you do, it could protect you from a variety of hazards including injuries resulting from crushing injuries, impact accidents and particles in the air/dust that could cause respiratory issues.

Second, you should be aware of your surroundings. Falling objects and forklift accidents are to blame for many warehouse injuries and deaths. Slip and falls are also an issue in warehouse settings. Following the established safety rules and paying attention to what's going on around you can reduce the number of accidents that occur.

Lastly, if your job involves doing the same motion over and over, make sure you are taking breaks and performing the motion in an ergonomically correct way. Doing so could reduce the stress on your body and prevent repetitive motion injuries.

If you work in a warehouse and are injured you should know you may be able to secure workers' compensation benefits. These benefits are not always easy to obtain and if your claim is denied initially you may feel defeated. If you find yourself in this situation, don't give up. Working with a lawyer who understands the workers' compensation system can help make the process easier and allow to receive the compensation you deserve.
