Do nursing homes abuse the use of antipsychotics?

The misuse of antipsychotics among nursing home patients is a serious concern for the medical community and families of victims. There is a place for these drugs, but they do have side effects and consequences that can't be ignored. Residents of long-term care facilities may be placed on these drugs, and reports have shown that they are being placed on them more often even when they do not have a diagnosis to warrant the antipsychotic's use.

3 things you shouldn't do after suffering a personal injury

Whether you suffer an injury, big or small, due to a car crash, a slip-and-fall accident, a dog bite or anything in between, there is a chance you have a personal injury case on your hands. Someone else may be accountable for your injury and you may be able to receive compensation for it.

Arbitration no longer only option for many nursing home disputes

The decision to move into a nursing home is a tough one for many elderly and disabled people. Sometimes, finding available space at a good nursing home is even harder. For many families, just finding any space will lead them to sign a contract and agree to almost any regulations set before them. Up until recently, there has been a common clause listed in many contracts. This clause states that any disputes related to the quality of care in the home, or accusations of abuse be settled in arbitration rather than court.

Family awarded $11.75 million for birth injuries

Birth is a difficult time for a mother and child; it puts an immense amount of stress on the bodies of both mom and the child. For children and their mothers, professional monitoring needs to be performed to make sure no labor complications occur during delivery. If a baby or mother is injured because of a doctor or medical provider not providing adequate care, they may have a case for compensation through a medical malpractice lawsuit.

You deserve a safe work environment at all times

Protecting yourself from unsafe working conditions can keep you safe when you would otherwise be at risk. Under both state and federal laws, your employer must provide you with a safe place to work. If there are violations in the workplace, then you can report those hazardous conditions or safety violations to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. In some cases, you can even refuse to work until the situation is corrected.

How safe is Uber?

In 2010, getting around town started to change for many people when the ride share company Uber was launched in the United States. Uber is a smart phone app that connects people who need a ride with people who are available to offer one. Uber drivers work as independent contractors, and they can choose to work or not as their schedule permits.

New Changes to Paid Leave Policies Promote Eldercare

Overall the U.S. falls behind other countries in terms of the leave policies it offers workers. Accordingly, it made news recently when one corporation announced its intention to institute an inventive paid leave program that's flexible enough to meet the needs of modern workers-especially those in the sandwich generation.

Dehydration: A silent and potentially deadly concern for elders

Dehydration is a serious concern for all people, not just the elderly. It can lead to problems with hallucinations, blood pressure, confusion, urinary tract infections, pneumonia and even bed sores. Without water, humans can't survive more than four days, showing just how vital it is to your health.

Medical Negligence Lawsuits for Birth Injuries

A birth injury can cause significant stress for parents. While you may be overjoyed that your child is alive, part of you may worry that your child will never be able to live a normal, full life due to medical negligence or error. A lawsuit for medical negligence may help you recover damages that bring emotional closure and provide money to pay for the care your child needs.

Motor vehicle accident deaths increased last year in state and country

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 2015 saw the largest increase in deaths due to motor vehicle accidents in almost 50 years. There were over 7 percent more fatalities in the US in 2015 than there were in 2014. This equates to 35,092 deaths that could have been prevented.
