National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day observed in Ohio

People in Ohio and throughout the nation were encouraged to participate in a recent event designated to support and raise awareness for those who suffer from a neurological disorder believed to be caused at the time of birth. National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day was celebrated on a recent Wednesday. Members of the public were asked to wear clothing green in color to show their support.

The U.S. Congress authorized the special awareness day, listing cerebral palsy as an unfortunately common form of chronic child disability. A recent article clarified that cerebral palsy is not a disease; rather, it is a condition. Although the specific cause is not known, data suggests that the brain injury usually occurs just before, during or shortly after birth.

A foundation spokeswoman stated that while individuals do not typically become cured of their conditions, there are services and therapies that assist them in managing their symptoms and help them reach their fullest potentials toward active and healthy lifestyles. A 21-year-old advocate who has cerebral palsy defied doctors' prognoses when they said she'd never walk. Five years ago, the young woman launched an online video channel to offer ongoing testimony about her experiences and help educate those who suffer from the same neurological condition.

Long-term medical care, physical therapy and support care for Ohio residents and others who suffer from cerebral palsy can lead to mounting costs that can cause undue financial stress for families. Some might wish to consider filing a personal injury claim in a civil court in order to seek financial relief for damages when it appears the condition was caused by medical negligence. Legal professionals can evaluate individual cases and offer advice as to what options are available and how best to navigate the legal system.
